The Honourable Jim McLay’s keynote address at the EmpowerNZ workshop is now available on our YouTube channel.
Hon Jim McLay is the New Zealand Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and a former leader of the National Party.
He served as Deputy Prime Minister under Sir Robert Muldoon, and in 1984 was at the epicentre of what is often referred to as New Zealand’s last ‘constitutional crisis’. We were incredibly fortunate to start the workshop with such a fascinating first hand account of a key moment in the history of our constitutional arrangements. His insights highlighted the practical implications of these arrangements and provided a useful context for the participants over the two-day workshop.
Hon Jim McLay’s address was covered by the New Zealand Herald – you can read the article here. You can also download a PDF of his address on our website.
