On Wednesday 15 June 2011 Jess Prendergast presented at the Leadership NZ 2011 Conversation Series at Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School. Wendy McGuinness has also recently presented at Otago University as part of the Women and Leadership Course.
Speaking on the topic of connecting with people through storytelling, Jess illustrated how the three factors of conversation, the agora, and co-creation inspire action based on their ability to weave together the diversity of narratives in New Zealand. These factors then form a process where separate views can be shared, building a wider picture and an opportunity to move together towards a common goal.
Jess provided the story of StrategyNZ: Mapping our Future as an example of the Institute using Strategy Maps as a process for bringing these narratives together and then concluded by providing detail on the Institute’s next project, which is focused on building capacity around Sir Paul Callaghan’s vision of a ‘place where talent wants to live‘.
Leadership New Zealand and the speakers that provided their thoughts on the role of narrative provided a stimulating and inspiring environment for the lively discussions that followed amongst the attendees. We would like to express our appreciation for the opportunity to be involved in their programme.
In Wendy McGuinness’ talk, Evolve, she highlighted the different types of futures and discussed how to increase the chances of preferred futures occurring. To view her presentation click here.
