The McGuinness Institute has had a fantastic year and with the festive season upon us it’s time to celebrate. Next Thursday, 13 December, the Institute is hosting its end of year Christmas event and we would love to have you join us for a celebratory drink!
We are also very fortunate to by Dr John Volpe, research director at the Seafood Ecology Research Group (SERG) in Canada, who will be presenting his ideas on the opportunities and limitations in a protein constrained world. John is a leading expert in benchmarking sustainable aquaculture and his team at SERG are responsible for developing the Global Aquaculture Performance Index (GAPI), which is a tool designed to empower seafood industry leaders and policy makers to make informed decisions about the environmental costs and benefits of farmed and marine fish.
With the recent launch of our Project OneOceanNZ we are particularly excited about this presentation, but we also recognise that it is a highly important and topical issue for all New Zealanders to consider. With the threats of climate change well and truly upon us, John’s work is offering an insight into practical ways that we can manage and reduce our carbon emissions. The benchmarking of sustainable aquaculture is a model that allows us to compare the effects of alternative sources of protein so that we can most effectively and efficiently address global challenges such as carbon offsetting and world food shortages.
We hope you will be able to join us, it would be great to see you there!
